View Full Version : What do you race/track?
I figure this is a proper first thread for this forum:):
What does everyone race or take to the track?
I'll start, I'm on my second season with my beloved 2007 1098S
Man is this thing fun:muahaha:
now the obligitory pic:
The Doctor is riding a 1198S with 172 HP, this is my first season on the bike. I set the fast time last Saturday in the morning in OMRRA practice...so f***in exciting. The traction control is simply amazing and provides tons a confidence in the bike exiting the corner.

I'm tracking a 1098R and have just finished fitting race fairing (skins) to it. Winter here at the moment so will enter some races later in the year.
and you're always so fashionably fresh! lol

Nothing wrong with kicking an S around mate. Looks like you can do a job of it judging by that photo!
I love my S! Its already more bike than i can imagine... an R model would be shear novelty. You don't pick up an R because you have to, you pick one up because you can, right mark?;)
PS I'm working on the font size.

Nothing too exciting compared to you racers, but I'm ridin a standard '07 1098, although I have quite a bit into it now. S wheels, DU515, EUS internals, EVR slipper and slave, Alth QC carrier ,and Termi slip-ons. I recently finished painting my track fairings so I'll get some pics up soon. 8k miles and runnin strong. I f'n love this bike.
You tease!!!! Sounds badass!
I downsized from a 1098 to an 848 this year and go 2 secs a lap faster:
http://www.ducatiomaha.com/Images/JJ848Track1.jpg
I finally took the plunge and ordered up a set of Armour Bodies race bodywork so it will be going track-only from here on out.
Performance upgrades so far include:
Full Termi with Ti sleeves off a 1098R exhaust, TTX, Nichols triples, Ohlins forks, 4-pad brembo calipers, Brembo HP rotors, Brembo RCS master, Yoyodyne slipper clutch, GPR damper, Woodcraft rearsets and clip-ons, Speedymoto sliders, DP racing seat, DP racing windscreen, Stomp Grip pads, Evo slave cylinder, Carrozzeria forged aluminum wheels, Supersprox rear sprocket (14/41 gearing), plus quite a few carbon fiber pieces and other non-performance-enhancing bling.
Those wheels look nice!!! like a fresh pair of sneakers!
Those wheels look nice!!! like a fresh pair of sneakers!
They're a bitch to keep clean, but they look GOOD when they are!
While not near the bike that a 1098 is, or an 848 for that matter. It gets me in enough trouble. 2003 999 S racing Wera this year.

Shoot! the triple nine is one hell of a machine, and much easier to tune than the current generation of Ducati Superbike. I had to think long and hard between a 999R and my 1098S...
Now where's the beef(pics)?
Highly modified 998R, engine by Bruce Meyers, too many other mods to list.
380 lbs fully wet, 151.4 rwhp, 82 lb/ft torque. Bike is very fast.

Hey guys, I don't have a big machine like ya'll, but I am running my novice season this year on a 01 748.......I built an 03 749 over the winter to race but am blowing oil all over and cannot pin point where from. I've tried a few different things but have not been succesful thus far.
Wassup? Running an 848 (which I can't ride even close to its potential). Track mods include Ohlins rear, Traxxion Dynamics front, GPR damper etc....
Good to see some of you guys from other places.

hey Joe, welcome and good luck getting that sweet ride! you can't go wrong as long as she's an italian twin;)
TSweez, how you liking that 748? I wouldn't mind having one of those. If I got a 99 or older I could ride down a class and go pick on SV650's with it !

Well both of those are beautiful machines. Whos R bike is that, it looks awful familiar. Not that a red Duc is rare, but still.
848 track only and 1098s Tricolore occasionally. BTW just joined and this is my first post. Nice site.

Hell JD, you outta know better than that... you buy it, then figure out how to afford it.
I put my money down for the 1098 back in Nov 06, left for OTS in Mar 07, and then applied for the loan while there. Had it paid for in Jun and didn't even see it till Aug!

Aaahaah it makes sense now, this is the really well priced one in FL I take it. Yeah I almost took on a little more debt for that one when I saw it, just not enough different from my 999 to take the plunge. Good luck if you get it, looks badass for sure.

:dance:I'm racing an 05 620 monster with the CRA. The bike has an ohlins shock and damper, race tech front end, woodcraft clipons, crg levers, cycle cat sets, vortex fairing bracket and sprockets, high arrow pipes, and I welded mounts on to run 999 bodywork with and R6 tail. It looks like a mini 999 and sounds great. the bikes been alot of fun to race and is a neverending project of tinkering. Pics of both mine and my teammates can be found at www.teamatomicracing.com we're both doing pretty good thus far this season.:dance:

Whats up guys. Raced a 748 and then a 1098 base. Was going to continue racing the 1098 for my first expert season, but things are not going to work out (got laid off and had to take a cut, also expecting our first baby).
I am trying to talk the boss into letting me pick up a 749r for a "one race a year" type thing. We'll see how that goes. All my gear is gone too
I am having alot of fun on the 748, I would say go for it, you can find them fairly cheap.

I run my base 1098 at the track and on the street, no racing though. It just has some basic mods like SATO rearsets, Frame/Axle/Swingarm Sliders, Open Clutch and HIDs. I'm shooting for doing fully reworked suspension over the winter.

Cool forum!
I'm racing a Monster 620 in the CRA Ultralight class. As someone posted in the picture above, there are lots of us racing these. These 2-valve motors rock. They are so rock solid and the maintenance is easy. It takes a little work to get them ready for the track but after you do, they are a blast to race.
I'm considering bolting up a 900 motor for next season and beating up some SVs.

Hey Guys,
My names Jon and I've raced for the past 19 years everything from a Honda Hawk 650, SV650 ZX,6 BMW1100S, CBR900, GSXR 1000, TLR 1000, EX650, 1098S these days I'm pretty happy with my 1098 R. Currently racing the MRA in Colorado but I've raced all over the country wih no too bad success. Currently 2nd in Supertwins GTO and 6th in MRA Race of the Rockies class. Have lots of stock parts of of 1098 R's and I'll be posting a few for sale. As I changed about everything on the bike to make it more competitive these parts are brand new. Things like all the stock bodywork, pistons, cams, pipe, swingarm, shock, and etc. I'm sponsored by Boulder Motorsports who builds what's almost a World Superbike spec bike for me. Anyhow glad to be here and look forward to joining in. Cheers, Jon

New leathers are over rated! I repplaced my rashed up Arlen Ness leathers a couple races ago with this Speed & Strength suit, which I love, but have already wrecked in it twice. It proves to not show the wrecks as bad as my last suit did, but it was white.

A guy here at work sprayed it for me. Former novice racer....I didn't come to the sport until I was 48 yrs old. I am now 56 and returning to physical condition to race CMRA next year, after I had suffered injuries 3 years ago. Raced Aprilia RS 250, then moved to 600's with a Trumpet and then GSXR 600 and 750. I am wasting a perfectly good 1098R by riding it on the street, so I may track it next year, but I need to start back with an SV or something to get my chops back.

One corner of the shop with street bikes. Unfortunately, I have to keep a rack of battery tenders going:

New to the site myself. Started to race MX in 1971, since then, it has been RR, trials, flatrack, Supermoto and now back to RoadRacing. The 1198S has been slowly getting all of the little things sorted out. Stig Pettersen made some suspension changes last weekend, so I should be well sorted for the next race.
A shot of the new glass before the last race at Willow Springs.

Exit T6 at TWS, pin the throttle all the way thru T7 to the top of the hill. Aim for the water tower and brake! You can't get in that much trouble with 55 HP! Ahem.
Did you check out my home built pipe on that thing.....sounds like an RC airplane engine on steroids at 15,500! Made it from altering a stock RS250 stinger....
What's worse? I got a 92' VFR 400 KISS Racing endurance version too, straight off Suzuka. MMMMMM.....RC30 replica in 400cc's:

I kid because secretly I'm jealous!
If I was gonna have a 400, it would be one of those lil buggers!
I still can't believe how high they were revving even back then...

finally got to do a couple trackdays on the 800 but I've only got 3 completely dry sessions and a full day of damp sessions. Coastal Ducati Club is doing a trackday at Jennings on the 23rd and then I'm doing a couple days at Talladega in November so hopefully I'll get some more dry time before winter. Unfortunately the only pictures I got were of the Michelin STT day where it was damp the entire day (stopped raining about 20 minutes before the 1st session and just stayed cloudy all day so the track never dried)

you did it right. Just scroll over the pic. You can also imbed, but that can f up the readability of the thread if the size of the image is too big.

Ducati 1198. Fun Times.....until I got a false nuetral betweeen 3rd and 2nd and took a minor crash in the grass. Fortunately, the bike and I were mostly okay. Need track fairings for the next go around...stock ones are pricey!

We have this one in our shop right now. It belongs to my friend Matt. I have the engine out of it for my 848. It looks great! Larry signed it on top of the tank.

Ok gentleman, I have just about 99% completed my new race bike. I had to build something to run with my bud Van in Twins and F40 so I'd like to introduce you to "Bella" . My last 1000 was named Veronica and she was pretty hot, but Bella is much prettier and not a Suzuki. Hopefully she is just as fast or faster. Before anyone asks about the "Duczuki" paint here is the story. I took our 8 sets of team bodywork down to the painter to have them painted blue/white/red, etc. and then also took my Duc bodywork down to have it painted in Xerox colors. So I get a call that my bodywork is done, and when i get there it is team colors and not red and white, and it had novice plates on it. So beside the fact that I was severely pissed, and threw things. The painter offered to repaint it or give me another free paint job whenever I needed it, so I took the free paint job, had them fix the number plate and then mounted it up, and it looks pretty cool. Not what I expected but oh well. I am trying to get to the track tomorrow for the maiden voyage. Wish me luck. http://www.frenotec.com/EbayImages/david_1098_002_500.jpg
